This first step checks that your database is compatible with our service. We read its version and the totals of your books — totals only.

Create one in your Odoo under Preferences → Account Security → New API key.

An API key? What is it, how does it work?

As its name says, this key opens secret passages between programs. For your safety we do not keep it: we use it only for as long as our program runs.

Here, it lets us prepare your price offer. Keep it for later: you will need it again in a few minutes.

So you are going to get into my Odoo?

No panic! On our side this key only ever reads: our program confines itself to eight read calls and refuses every other one before a connection is even opened. It never writes anything in your accounting.

For extra safety, you can create another user — careful, that is a paid one on Odoo Online and on any Enterprise plan — with read-only accounting rights: that is all we will need.

Your key is not stored and not passed to a third party: it is gone once we have read what we need. Keep it somewhere safe — you will need it again.
